Saint-Paul de Vence

If the architecture of the village is characterized by the ramparts, towers and steeples, other secrets are hidden in the heart of the old alleys. The Saint-Paul stone is an inheritance from the men who marked the history of the village.

Saint-Paul is a creative area. The village and the Maeght Fondation shelter many paintings and sculptures from artists such as Soutine, Léger, Chagall ... In 1920, many painters are welcome to Saint-Paul (Matisse, Chagall, Renoir, Signac, Modigliani, Dufy), as well as writers such as Gide, Giono, Cocteau, Prévert, and later film-makers and scriptwriters : Clouzot, Cayatte, Audiard ... as well as French and international stars : Yves Montand, Lino Ventura, Simone Signoret, Romy Schneider, Roger Moore, Tony Curtis ...

Today, other names perpetuate the artistic identity of the village. At the origins of the contemporary art, the contemporary painting, the sculpture and the arts and crafts are largely present in the Maeght Fondation and in the art galleries and art studios of the village.
